Hippopotamus

Hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius) is a large herbivore mammal. Hippopotamus is a kind of amphibi animal which has warm bloods. Hippopotamus has life span between 35 - 50 years

Female hippo has weight range between 1300 - 1500 kg (2900 - 3300 lb). Adult male's weight ranges between 1500 - 1800 kg (3300 - 4000 lb). Older male can get much weight between 3200 - 4500 kg (7100 - 9900 lb)

Hippo lives in rivers. Sometimes hippo lives in lakes. Most of the hippos live in West African Mangrove.

Female hippo reaches sexual maturity between five to six years and has a gestation period of 8 months. Female hippopotamus may begin puberty at 3 - 4 years old. Male hippopotamus can reach maturity at 7,5 years. After pregnant, female hippopotamus will tipically not begin ovulation again for 17 months.

In the wild, the hippo eats soft grasses and low lying plants, aquatic and reed plants, leaves, and fallen fruits. When in the zoo, the hippopotamus eats corn and sugar cone.

Hippo spends most of the day lying in the water. The water serves to keep the hippopotamus temperature down and to keep the skin from drying out. At night, the hippopotamus spends its night grazing.
